5 Tips for Dazzling Dahlias

With a little attention, your dahlias will reward you with spectacular blooms from midsummer through fall. Here are five things that will make all the difference.

1. Pick a sunny spot. Dahlias want at least 6 hours of direct sun a day.
2. Water at soil level. Always water at soil level rather than overhead to keep mildew at bay.
3. Stake early. Support taller varieties early with a stake or tomato cage, tying stems loosely as they grow.
4. Feed with a bloom food. We like Maxsea Bloom Plant Food or EB Stone Ultra Bloom Plant Food. Follow the packaging for application rates.
5. Deadhead routinely. The more you deadhead, the more your dahlia blooms.
